Applications are now being accepted for the Las Casas Performing Arts High School Scholarship Competition. The deadline to submit applications for the competition is Jan. 28 and preliminary auditions will be held at the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre, presented by the Las Casas Foundation.
The Las Casas Foundation’s unique scholarship program was designed to award financial assistance to talented college-bound senior students with an interest in the performing arts.
In a 2009 and 2010 performance based competition at the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre, Las Casas successfully awarded over $135,000 ranging from $5,000 to $500 per finalist.
The total awarded scholarship money included finalists, honorable mentions and essay winners.
Matilde Bernabei, who currently attends Texas State University was a $5,000 dollar winner at the 2009 competition.
“Not only did Las Casas help my family and me financially, but it was such a great experience. It was a great way to start out my musical theatre life in college! Completely enriching, memorable and fun,” Bernabei said.
Student Applications are available online at www.lascasasfoundation.org under the key word scholarship.
The preliminary audition dates will be from April 1-3 and April 6-9, 2011. For more information, call Lynn at 210-223-4343.
