Erasers are scrubbed into the paper to forget the mistakes. Their is a deathly silence spreading throughout the room. Finals have descended across the campus.

The day of Jan. 11th starts finals with periods 4 and 6 having a 90 minute class period to take their tests, with each of the other classes being around 35 minutes. Each of the other classes have their chance to take their exams through the rest of the week with early dismissal on Thursday and Friday.

“I’ve broken down the whole first semester so that we cover everything day by day, like one day we cover lines and angles and the next day we cover triangles. We have reviewed for two weeks before finals start so I’m really confident that they will do well on their test,” Stephen Hudson, Geometry Teacher, said.

Studying and reviewing helps to drill the information into your head that you need to know to pass final. Help from teachers is much appreciated from students as some need that little push to  help them remember what they have learned over the course of this first semester.

“Sometimes I need some help remembering what we learned at the beginning of the year. This helps me for the start of the next semester also because I know what I need to know to be able to learn more, and faster for the next semester,” Steven Smith, sophomore, said.

With all of this studying students are reminded of the stress that is put on them by parents, teachers, friends and the goal that they have set for themselves.

“I tend to put pressure on myself. I want to be valedictorian, so I need to do really well on my finals so there is a lot of pressure from now until I graduate to do well,” Jasmin Rollins, freshman, said.

With longer and shorter classes and early release students are confused as to when they will have their finals.

“I think that the new schedule has it perks, like the hour and  half lunch, my favorite exam, but then it’s really crazy because no one knows how long the classes are going to be or when the exam is,” Smith said.

The new schedule is supposed to replace the one for AB scheduled testing as we no longer have AB schedules, though it is very similar to the one that has been adopted for this year except that everyone has to go to 4th, 5th, and 6th period everyday so that everyone can have lunch.

“I think that the schedule is drawn out making exams last forever,” Rollins said.

From studying to stress to new exam schedules, exams are upon students and teachers and everyone is trying to get through them as well as they can. The best thing to be done is to study hard but don’t forget time for fun.
