Dance competition teams are getting ready for their competitions on Feb. 26 and March 5. Spirit groups are busy preparing for competition out of district.

The Varsity dance team, Patriots, are performing several routines, including jazz, hip-hop, kick line, and others. Dazzlers, the junior varsity dance team, also learned several routines, jazz, hip-hop, and pom. Cavaliers competition, 13 girls whom tried out for competing from the pep squad, are performing a nerdy hip-hop to a mix of different hip-hop songs, a purple salsa-y pom routine, and a sparkly blue jazz routine to a selection from “My Girls” by Christina Aguilera.

“The teams have been practicing for four months. They have been learning dances and cleaning dance. Each team practices before and after school. I think everybody has learned a lot and are ready for competition on Saturday. Good Luck Girls! I know you’ll do great!” Alison Redding, Patriot, Dazzlers, and Cavalier dance teacher, said.

All dance teams have practice at 7:30 a.m., until 5:30 p.m., and night practices from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“We’re in practice at 7:30 every morning and have night practice. Some people take the music home to practice. We all have to strive to look the same during competition. We just practice a lot. And we make goals and work on meeting them,” Everie Wright, Patriot, sophomore, said.

JV Cheerleaders have already won in Nationals. Several people are very proud of them. One of which is their teacher, Rachel Friesenhaun.

“JV Cheer won Nationals! We’re very proud of our cheerleaders! They have been practicing since summer when they first learned their routines and have been cleaning their dances and cheers in order to perfect them. I think the dance teams will rock during competition and I know they can do anything! Good Luck Girls!” Rachel Friesenhaun, Cheer and Cavalier teacher, said.

Come see these girls compete on Feb. 26 at O’Connor High School all day. Admission is 10 dollars. And don’t forget to say good luck next week before first period for their competition in Dallas at Frisco High School.
