Students prepare for next level of VASE

Three students are set to go to state for VASE this weekend: Jayce’Aira Lockhart, Jasmine Espinoza, and Sharise Dotson.

Sharise Dotson’s art piece to go to VASE was called “Upright Mondrian.” Her inspiration for her art was “Broadway Boogie Woogie” It made her want to do it similar to this art piece.

Jayce’Aira Lockhart’s art piece is called “Spiracle Sweep” this master piece isn’t one she would usually do. This is something new she tried out and see how she felt about it.

Jasmine Espinoza’s piece is called “The Only Way Is Up.” She said she was surprised that the piece performed so well.

A total of 48 students competed at the regional competition last month, earning 63 regional medals and the three area medals qualifying them for State. A gallery of some of these medalists is below.

VASE stands for Visual Arts Scholastic Event . It recognizes examplarary students achievement in the visual arts by providing art students and programs a standard of excellence in which to achieve. VASE started back in 1980, in Texas art education association members began to investigate the value of university interscholastic league (UIL) participation for visual arts.
