With rodeo just around the corner, art students participated in the annual Western Art Contest. Eleven students received awards for their drawings, paintings, or sculptures this year.

From Ms. Ferris’ art class, junior Tammy Nguyen placed in the top fifty, which means her work will be framed.

Tammy Nguyen’s art earned top 50 and will be framed.

“For this one I was really disappointed because I was hoping to get higher, but this time I didn’t,” Nguyen said.

Nguyen said her advice for striving artists is to not be afraid to experiment, have fun with your work, and don’t be stuck on the same thing all the time. Senior Anya Bishop, also in Ferris’ class, earned a second place ribbon.

Ms. Ferris was very proud of her students and how hard they worked. The students started working on in the fall, and had their work entered Dec. 9.

The contest has been going on since 1996. Other winners for second place include junior Carter Johnson, junior Esmeralda Garcia Ruiz, sophomore Lacie Parries, junior Emily Ramirez-Wong, and freshman Mackenzie Stewart. Third place winners included senior Michelle Cisneros, junior Allison Lobitz, and senior Samantha Miller. Senior Alyssa Wren received a participation ribbon.
