The 2-4 Johnson Jaguars enter into the eighth week of what seems to be a challenging season coming off a bye week after a 28-6 loss to the Madison Mavericks. The Jags will match up in their homecoming game against the 5-2 Roosevelt Rough Riders on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Comalander Stadium.

Last year the Jags sophomore quarterback, Cohner Mokry threw a go-ahead touchdown in the final seconds of the game to give the Jags the win. However, that was a year ago and a lot has changed in the line up for Johnson. Mokry now heavily depends on up and coming wide receivers Bo Molina and Sean Stier as well as running backs Yvan Kuykendall and Marvin Smith to light up the score board .

The Jags are coming off of four consecutive losses after starting the season 2-0. In their four losses, the Jags margin of defeat is just over 16 points a game. Last week against district rival Madison, the Jag defense gave up a total of 28 points, all in the first 12 minutes of the game. In what seemed to be a blow out in the making, the Jags defense stepped up and shut down the explosive Maverick offense and didn’t allow another point for the remainder of the game.

This week marks the return of the Jag’s cornerback Mario Verrett and linebacker Garrett Hunt. With these two key components in place the Jaguar’s defense is back to full strength. In Friday’s game, a victory is  eminent when accompanied with all the excitement surrounding the Jags’ third annual homecoming game. However, don’t be fooled into thinking the Jags are so focused on homecoming that  they have lost sight of the importance of their priorities; winning is not an option, it is a necessity!
