At around 1:30 am on Wednesday, May 11, the Johnson campus received an unwelcome visit. When students arrived at school hours later, they were greeted by the offensive stench of rotting eggs. Windows and doors were ‘decorated’ with what has been thought to have been some form of a senior prank.
“I understand the concept of the senior prank, but it was kind of mean. It took our custodial staff over three hours of cleaning to try and get the smell off from the eggs,” Assistant Principal Mitch Brown said.
Yet, Johnson seniors are not suspected to be at fault. Students have posted suspicious messages on a Twitter page representing Churchill. Some of the posts have direct ties to the incident. @thatsochurchCHILL boasted “Hey @thatsojohnson, I bet your $80,000,000 campus looks real nice with all of those eggs…”
It seems that the students involved have no intention of keeping quiet, and no one is surprised.
“Believe it or not, people do have a hard time keeping their mouth shut when something happens, so we will find out one way or another,” Brown said.
The so-called prank could turn out to have more serious consequences than its perpetrators anticipated.
“Police are involved, unfortunately for those who are guilty,” Brown said. “However, if they get caught, it probably is considered vandalism, criminal mischief, or both. So if they’re seniors, there’s always running the risk of not walking the stage.”
Even though the identities of the perpetrators are unknown at the moment, the administration has detailed proof of the incident.
“We see it all. It’s clear as day on camera; it was really right there. They turned over some tables, and of course, there’s still some eggs,” Brown said.
The administration promises consequences, but hopes not to have to punish Johnson students.
“I just hope it wasn’t one of ours, because that would be extremely disappointing, to do that to your own school,” Brown said. “But we’ll see – and that’s a guarantee.”
