This fall, students can get into the warm, autumnal spirit by getting comfortable with a good read. This can be a thriller, mystery, or even romance, to get you in the right mood this season.
“A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” by Holly Jackson
“A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” by Holly Jackson is a great book that deserves to be near the top of any bookworm’s wishlist. It is a suspenseful thriller, yet humorous at times with well-developed characters that readers can’t help but adore. There are multiple unexpected twists and turns in the story of a high school girl named Pip, who closely studies a murder case that she believes falsely accuses the wrong suspect. The culprit of the case is dead as well as the victim, and though most other people in the story believe that he took his own life after the victim’s, Pip thinks otherwise. The reader is brought through a complex adventure that continues through a trilogy.
“Where The Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens
“Where The Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens is a coming-of-age murder mystery that takes place on two separate timelines that ultimately overlap. The first timeline is in 1952, of a young girl named Kya who has had a heart-breaking childhood, while the second timeline is in 1965, of the investigation of a murder case that Kya was accused of being responsible for. This is a story of love and heartbreak that gets the reader emotionally invested and constantly wanting to know what happens next.
“The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern
“The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern is a non-linear written fantasy shown from multiple character perspectives. The main plot revolves around two young illusionists, Celia and Marco, who train nearly all their lives for a lifelong duel to the death. Though Celia is born with her magical abilities, Marco has to learn everything from scratch, and as time goes on, their journey only gets more and more complicated. Though this book can feel scattered at times with the constant jumps back and forth in the timeline, the many subplots occurring within this story add depth and detail to the overall plot.
Whether it’s “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder”, “Where The Crawdads Sing”, or The Night Circus, there are many great books out there to bring you joy this fall. Even if you’re not the biggest reader, these books are worth giving a shot and will set a festive tone for your fall season.
