Although the style of play and the dynamics for the team is different than last year, the girl's basketball team is going to use it to their advantage to win most games. Their season began on October 18 and they have already established their plays.
Students participate in many extracurricular activities, from musical activities to sports to leadership roles like Student Council and more. But how many of those students are involved in extracurricular academics, such as academic UIL?
“We have had a very low participation in most of the events, other than current events,” physics teacher and academics UIL coordinator Leslie Salazar said. “We’ve got a very diverse population here at Johnson so the kids are involved in everything, so getting them or asking them to commit time to come to practices and to study time for something on their own that they’re not getting graded for is a lot to ask of them.”
Instead of having a district tournament at the end of the season, every district match counts and makes the season as a whole a district tournament; thus, allowing the top four seeds move into an area tournament.
The Johnson Jaguars softball team has been clicking on all cylinders as of late. With a 17-6 overall record (and a 7-1 district record), the team has put themselves in position for a deep run in the playoffs once again.
