Baseball and Softball advance to playoffs

Johnson baseball and softball have both advanced to the playoffs. They both finished out the regular season with impressive records. For example, Jag baseball finished with a record of 16-9-1 including 7-4 in district. On the other hand Jag softball closed the regular season at 22-6-1 and 11-1 in district. These great performances is the boost of momentum that can carry the Jags.

“We’ve been to the playoffs before so the big stage will not phase us,” senior Conner Gesell said.

Despite this momentum and energy both teams are focused on practicing  and preparation for their games.

“It’s a team effort and we are still going to practice to prepare,” Gesell said.

Due to the fact that both teams have experience and new teammates they won’t be affected.

“I am excited to rematch Judson from last year’s playoffs as we have been preparing for specific teams and we are very talented,” senior Melanie Roe said. “The team is mostly experienced but I think our freshmen will have no problem due to their pressure from club games.”

This quote held up for the Lady Jags as they beat Judson 2-1 in a clutch performance in the first round of the playoffs. Next up for softball is a three game series against Holmes. Then for baseball the team will also have a three game series but in the first round versus San Marcos. The action kicks off on Thursday April 2 and carries through the weekend.
